Thank you for your interest in the Blueberry Absorption Metabolism Study; participant recruitment is now closed. We look forward to completing the study and sharing our results.
Step 1: Participants must meet certain recruitment criteria.

Step 2: If you are interested, set up an interview to verify eligibility.
Step 3: If the interview determines that you are eligible, and you wish to enroll in the study, schedule and complete a Consent Visit.
- Location: Plants for Human Health Institute, 600 Laureate Way, Suite 1329, Kannapolis, NC 28081 (Red star on the map below)
- This visit will take approximately 30 minutes of your time. We will:
- Give you a brief presentation about the study;
- Collect your signature on the Consent Form;
- Confirm your Body Mass Index.
Step 4: After giving your Consent to participate in the study, schedule and complete a Clinical Screening Visit.
- Location: Human Research Core, located at the Nutrition Research Institute, 500 Laureate Way, Suite 1315, Kannapolis, NC 28081 (Blue star on the map below)
- This visit will take approximately 1 hour of your time. We ask you come FASTED for at least 10 hours (except for water). During this visit we will:
- Measure your resting blood pressure;
- Ask you some medical history and medication use questions;
- Ask you to collect a midstream urine sample;
- Collect approximately 1/2 tablespoon (8.5 mL) of your blood.
- At the end of this visit, breakfast will be provided.
Step 5: If you are still eligible after screening, you will be scheduled to complete the Clinical Trial.
The clinical trial will consist of:
- Four berry feeding visits (on weekdays)
- Day 1 of each feeding visit will require 9.5 hours
- Day 2 and 3 following the feeding visit will require 1 hour each day.
- There will be a break of 18-25 days between the four berry feeding visits.
- For each berry feeding visit, we will:
- Ask you to come FASTED for at least 10 hours (except for water);
- Ask you some medical history and medication use questions;
- Ask you to provide five urine collections over approximately 24 hours;
- Collect 7 blood samples;
- Provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, beverages and snacks on days 1 and 2;
- Provide breakfast on day 3.
- The total study duration is of approximately 3 months; total time commitment can be adjusted during summer of 2021
