New Look, New Organizational Structure

In late 2010, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ (CALS) extension and research administration decided to merge the extension and research efforts at the N.C. Research Campus. N.C. MarketReady is now the Cooperative Extension outreach of the Plants for Human Health Institute.

While extension and research have been housed together and worked together at the N.C. Research Campus since N.C. MarketReady (formerly the Program for Value-Added & Alternative Agriculture) relocated to the campus in 2007, extension wasn’t officially part of the institute. The decision by CALS administration formalizes the arrangement.

Dr. Mary Ann Lila serves as the director of the Plants for Human Health Institute. Rod Gurganus leads the N.C. MarketReady team. Other changes included naming Leah Chester-Davis as director of communications of the institute with responsibilities for both research and extension. Administrative staff under the direction of Tara Vogelien will also assume responsibilities for both research and extension.

As part of this new organizational structure there no longer will be two different websites for N.C. State’s efforts at the research campus. The new website for the Plants for Human Health Institute includes both extension and research information. The former N.C. MarketReady site is part of the new website and can be found under the Extension (N.C. MarketReady) tab in the navigation bar at the top of the new home page at https://plantsforhumanhealth.ncsu.edu.

New PHHI Logo and Research Section

As part of the merged website launch, the Plants for Human Health Institute debuts a new logo, which was designed to represent both plant and human elements, reflecting the work of the institute. The research section of the website now contains more detail about the institute’s lead researchers, their lab personnel and the research being conducted.

The new web address for the Plants for Human Health website is plantsforhumanhealth.ncsu.edu. While our former web addresses (www.ncmarketready.org and www.ncsu.edu/phhi) will redirect to this site, we have started using the new address on new communication pieces that we produce.
